With the launch of the new project website during PROVADA, MRP gives the official go-ahead for the further development of Kruisvaartkade in the center of Utrecht. The project comprises a total of approximately 600 homes, of which approximately 200 are affordable rental homes. The first phase that will be started, located in the middle of the plan area, consists of 85 owner-occupied homes and 119 social rental homes. The sale of owner-occupied homes is expected to start this summer.
Development and area vision
MRP will take over the project from the current owner in phases and develop it further step by step. This will continue the area development in Kruisvaartkade and provide it with a new impulse. The development consists of several striking residential buildings, designed by different architects. On the railway side, an urban and industrial appearance is created, while on the side of the Kruisvaart a green, quiet and intimate living environment is being realized with town houses. The plan forms a new urban living environment in the city centre of Utrecht, where housing, greenery and architectural quality come together.
"With Kruisvaartkade, we are not only adding homes to Utrecht, but we are creating a healthy and green city district that fits the dynamics and character of the Dichterswijk. With the launch of the new project website during PROVADA, we are taking an important first step in a development that will visibly take shape in the coming years," says Bart Meijer, CEO of MRP.
Before construction starts, the site will be prepared for construction in the autumn. The Plukpad, part of the RingPark, is an attractive walking route through the Dichterswijk that connects the water of the Kruisvaart along the railway with the water of the Merwede Canal. For safety reasons, the Plukpad will be temporarily closed to the public. After the completion of the first phases, the path will be reconstructed and reopened, so that the quality and continuity of the RingPark path will be preserved.
With approximately 600 homes, Kruisvaartkade makes a substantial contribution to the Utrecht housing challenge and the further development of a future-proof, lively and healthy living environment.
