MRP has transferred its 50% share in Cartesius Utrecht to Ballast Nedam Development

With effect from 1 July 2026, Ballast Nedam Development will acquire MRP’s 50% share in Cartesius Utrecht. With this transaction, Ballast Nedam Development will continue the further development of this large-scale inner-city regeneration project independently. Cartesius Utrecht is an urban district inspired by the principles of Blue Zones science and, upon completion, will comprise approximately 3,300 homes, combined with amenities centred around Cartesius Park and the distinctive and historic CAB.

Cartesius Utrecht, The Netherlands

MRP and Ballast Nedam Development have worked closely and successfully together over the past few years on the development of Cartesius Utrecht and are proud of the results achieved.

Bart Meijer, CEO and founder of MRP: “Cartesius Utrecht is in good hands with Ballast Nedam Development. This milestone not only marks a successful phase, but also enables us to take the next step in MRP’s development. Cartesius Utrecht has strengthened our organisation across the board. We will also carry forward the insights we have gained into area development, collaboration and prioritising a healthy living environment into new projects. Looking back, we can confidently say that we have not only met expectations but exceeded them. We are proud of the result and look forward to taking this vision further.

With this transfer, Ballast Nedam Development assumes all rights and obligations within the existing partnership structure. Current agreements remain in force unchanged. The development of Cartesius Utrecht is in full swing. The first 700 homes are under construction and will be completed this year. Construction of approximately 1,100 homes is due to start shortly, and the remaining 1,500 homes are in the development phase.
