With the completion of MIX Amsterdam, a new sustainable urban community has been added to Amsterdam Nieuw-West. The new-build project was ceremonially handed over to the city in the presence of district chair Lotte Terwel. With 528 apartments, 162 of which are social housing, approximately 4,000 m² of commercial space, a green courtyard garden, the Verhalenhuis – due to open in 2028 – featuring a library, an arthouse cinema and an Arabic Arthouse, and an extension providing 382 additional public parking spaces at Parking Nieuw West, MIX Amsterdam offers space for living, working, socialising and culture.
Bart Meijer, CEO and owner of MRP, looks back with pride on the completion of the project: “With the handover of MIX Amsterdam, we are not only completing a new-build project of exceptional quality and sustainability, but, above all, we are handing over a new community to the city. A green, vibrant and inclusive living environment, where people live, work, meet and create new stories together. My sincere thanks go to the City of Amsterdam, our team and all the partners who have made this possible. Now it is up to the residents and businesses to bring this place to life, to make it a welcoming home and to write a new future together.”

A new impulse for Amsterdam Nieuw-West
MIX Amsterdam was developed with one central ambition in mind: to create a green, sustainable and inclusive living environment for everyone. The project combines living, working and culture within a green, sustainable living environment, bringing people, functions and facilities together in a natural way. This creates a vibrant community that contributes to the further development and appeal of the centrally located Osdorpplein town centre in Amsterdam Nieuw-West.
Klaartje Molthof, Director of Portfolio Renewal at Ymere: “Thanks to our excellent collaboration with MRP and Union Investment, we have been able to create 162 social housing flats in the Lime building. As a result, MIX Amsterdam has become a mixed-use residential neighbourhood catering to a diverse range of residents, from young first-time buyers to families and older people. It is a green, sustainable and inclusive living environment close to the Sloterplas and local amenities. Our tenants will thoroughly enjoy living here.”
Encounter as a foundation
At the heart of MIX Amsterdam is a green courtyard garden that invites residents and visitors to meet one another. The garden also contributes to biodiversity and climate adaptation in the city. The ground floor will house shops and the Verhalenhuis, featuring a library, an arthouse cinema and, amongst other things, an Arabic Arthouse, where local residents, creators and visitors can meet, inspire one another and share stories. The Verhalenhuis is expected to open in 2028.
Lotte Terwel, Chair of the Nieuw-West District Council, City of Amsterdam: “I am delighted that so many affordable rental homes have been completed, where Amsterdammers will find a home. With the completion of MIX Amsterdam, we are taking a step forward in addressing the housing challenge in Nieuw-West and the rest of the city. And the fact that, before long, you’ll be able to sit here in the green courtyard garden with a book you’ve just borrowed from the library is perhaps what I find most wonderful of all.”
Sustainable and future-proof
Sustainability played a key role right from the initial design phase. MIX Amsterdam has been developed in accordance with the EU taxonomy guidelines, whereby sustainability and a high-quality, healthy living environment go hand in hand. The flats are energy-efficient and finished with high-quality, sustainable materials. A further 382 parking spaces have also been created in the public car park, which is directly connected to Parking Nieuw-West beneath the Jumbo supermarket. This has expanded the parking capacity at Parking Nieuw-West to 607 spaces, including 100 charging points for electric vehicles and a public cycle shelter for over 400 bicycles.
Niels Doodeman, CEO Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling: “The MIX Amsterdam project is a wonderful example of inner-city development. Following the completion of The Hub, which houses the new municipal service centre, Heddes was commissioned to build MIX Amsterdam alongside this site. A unique project in a unique location. The whole team is filled with pride; with the completion of MIX Amsterdam, a lovely home has been created for many people. “
MIX Amsterdam thus marks a new step in the development of Nieuw-West: a contemporary urban community where diversity, sustainability and a sense of connection come together to form a home for the city.
